I really like that movie! Cathy Moriarty is hilarious as the headmistress. I love how they think that if they make the boys wear blue and the girls wear pink they'll side with the appropriate gender, etc. Like they'd just been confused in yellow their whole lives, right?

you have to see "but i'm a cheerleader!" its more silly than the relatively hard-hitters on your list, but after i saw it i was left with a feeling of being "delighted" for 2 days. i almost never have that feeling, and i had to think hard for a word to describe it. i also emailed one of my gender studies professors and told her about it. its about a girl who is sent to a gender 're-education camp" because shes not being feminine enough. when she gets there she finds lesbians and gays, goths, club kids and others who arent being true enough to their respective gender-stereotypes. the "exercises" they are made to perform and lectures they have to attend to make them more conforming are over-the-top ridiculous. girls wear pink uniforms, boys blue etc. its a teriffic commentary.

Interesting list; I look forward to hearing your reasons. Just now, I was looking at our vast DVD collection and realized how few have female leads. But what about The Accused or The Gift (my husband's favorite)? I think that Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 have strong characters and a strong film. But I bet we could have a long discussion about women in films,
